New line in doc version

Hi,
I am working on BIRT Version 2.2.1.
In report the <br> is working fine for pdf and the html verstion.
But for doc version it not working.
For example . if we have text like this "ding<br>dong"
The pdf and html version display the text as below.
ding
dong
which is correct.
while the doc version display :- dingdong
I need to display as per pdf and html vestion.
can you please suggest how i can achieve this ?.
