Configuring Email notification

I am trying to configure the SMTP server to the iServer for Email notification on completion of a job(successful/unsuccessful). I tried configuring it based on the information in the document 'Configuring BIRT iServer'. In the configuration console, i followed all the steps exactly mentioned in the document.
->in system properties, notification, enabled SMTP.
-> In add new SMTP server, gave a server name, valid server ip address/hostname(tried both).
-> restarted iServer system.
-> then scheduled a report with email notification checked in iHub information console.
Valid Email ID was entered in the Notification tab, in options in information console.

Job got processed but no email was received. In Job details, 'Send me an Email notification' was showing as yes.

Please help me in resolving this email issue. Did i miss something in configuration?
